The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Packers reached some 64 spots for Sam Hartman, and value like that does not grow back.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Watson. The phones were where this weekend was really won. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.18 · Pick 18 · Quinyon Mitchell · CB · rank 16
In the Round 1 slot they get a lockdown presence outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R1.21 · Pick 21 · Olumuyiwa Fashanu · OT · rank 8
In pick 21 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
R1.28 · Pick 28 · Kool-Aid McKinstry · CB · rank 28
In pick No. 28 they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Graham Barton · OT · rank 25
Graham Barton at the 34th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Renardo Green · S · rank 71
A slide stopped in Round 3, Pick 25, with Renardo Green worth more than the price. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R4.28 · Pick 128 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 120
The board had Johnny Wilson higher than slot 128, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R4.34 · Pick 134 · Will Shipley · RB · rank 117
A quiet steal in slot 134: Will Shipley for less than the market said. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.24 · Pick 160 · Tyrone Tracy Jr. · WR · rank 126
You do not let a wide receiver like Tyrone Tracy Jr. reach pick 160 and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R6.5 · Pick 180 · Kitan Oladapo · S · rank 142
The board fumbled Kitan Oladapo all the way to No. 180, and they scooped it up. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
R6.9 · Pick 184 · Caedan Wallace · OT · rank 135
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick No. 184 is the definition of value, full stop. The roster fit checks out.
R6.14 · Pick 189 · Sam Hartman · QB · rank 253
A big swing on Sam Hartman at the 189th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Jowon Briggs · DT · rank 271
Jowon Briggs in the Round 7 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fills a real need, too.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Blake Watson · RB · rank 203
Blake Watson at the 255th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
