The Braelon Allen selection is the head-turner. The Packers reached 33 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
Kinchens falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The Kinchens pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, quarterback and other spots. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Tyler Nubin at par in pick No. 25, which is nothing to complain about. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They paid a round early for Edgerrin Cooper in the 41st pick, more than the board wanted. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A surprising call. With edge rusher, quarterback and other spots still to address, they spent slot 57 on Kamren Kinchens, a safety they were not short of.
Caelen Carson in No. 88 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Blake Fisher in pick 91 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Braelon Allen at the Round 4 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
