This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Brenden Rice, the No. 113 name on the board, stolen at slot 135. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The cost of the Frazier reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 11 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
They read the board right and Xavier Worthy was the payoff at the 39th pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A clean, defensible pick in the 43rd pick with a little surplus value in Kamari Lassiter. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Nice patience on Trey Benson, who had no business lasting to the Round 3 slot. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Marist Liufau at Round 3, Pick 18 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor need, but a need all the same.
No edge and no loss on Blake Fisher in No. 111; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Brenden Rice at pick No. 135 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Miles Frazier in the 189th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
