Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Packers spent the 219th pick on Sam Hartman, a name most had 41 spots down the list. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. Landing Brooks that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 11 they get an anchor for the offensive line. A clean fit for the roster.
Emeka Egbuka slipping to Round 2, Pick 7 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A need, and now a little less of one.
A tidy bit of business in No. 43, where Terrion Arnold graded well above the range. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No edge and no loss on Sedrick Van Pran in the 75th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Marist Liufau at pick 82 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Audric Estime at the 111th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jaden Hicks in No. 135. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A reach for Brandon Coleman in pick No. 189; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Tahj Brooks in Round 6, Pick 42, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Sam Hartman in slot 219 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A slide stopped in the 232nd overall pick, with Jaylon Carlies worth more than the price. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
