The Packers treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending Round 6, Pick 44 on DeMonte Capehart a full 141 spots early. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. Spending an early pick on safety with edge rusher and tight end open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Williams.
The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 14 they get a home-run threat at receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
No drama and no debate, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
No edge and no loss on Jordan Morgan in the 43rd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
By-the-book stuff, Cooper Beebe at slot 46 squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They paid sticker price for Blake Corum in No. 73, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Nazir Stackhouse at pick No. 82 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jason Marshall Jr. in No. 109 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They took Shilo Sanders at par in the 114th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A minor need, but a need all the same.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with James Williams while clear needs at edge rusher and tight end sat open.
Bryce Foster in pick 187 is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
A slide stopped in pick No. 217, with Jordan Whittington worth more than the price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
