They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Mekhi Wingo, 29 picks early at pick No. 78. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes. They bet on numbers rather than a single high pick.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Jordan Morgan went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A wild overpay on Austin Booker in Round 2, Pick 23, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Mekhi Wingo at pick No. 78 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Cole Bishop in the 100th pick is fair value, right on his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They went early on Malik Mustapha in pick 158, and the value did not follow. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jha'Quan Jackson in slot 184. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Drake Nugent in the Round 6 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A reach for Kimani Vidal in the 241st overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
