You can draft well and still miss the point. The Dolphins did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to quarterback, which was the need that mattered most. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
The Oladapo pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 21st pick they get a cornerstone up front. A clean fit for the roster.
Austin Booker in pick 71 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No drama and no debate, Maason Smith went about where he belonged in the 104th overall pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reach on Kitan Oladapo in pick No. 138; the board had better options right there. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Tykee Smith at the Round 5 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Jha'Quan Jackson at slot 184 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A premium they did not need to pay, Drake Nugent a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They paid up for Kimani Vidal at No. 241 when waiting would have done the job. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
