Nobody had Dominique Hampton this high, and it is not close. The Dolphins reached 50 spots to get him at Round 6, Pick 9. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. Landing Johnson that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 21 they get an anchor for the offensive line. A clean fit for the roster.
They jumped the gun on Austin Booker, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Maason Smith in pick No. 104 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tanor Bortolini at the 138th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Kitan Oladapo at the Round 5 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A wild overpay on Dominique Hampton in the 184th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
A slide stopped in slot 198, with Cornelius Johnson worth more than the price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid a round early for Kimani Vidal in pick 241, more than the board wanted. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
