The Dolphins torched the value chart for Drake Nugent, taking him 42 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.
Spending an early pick on safety with quarterback, tight end and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 31st pick they get a cornerstone up front. A clean fit for the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Chris Braswell at slot 55 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A reach on Mekhi Wingo in the Round 3 slot; the board had better options right there. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Calen Bullock in Round 3, Pick 31. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Mohamed Kamara. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Kitan Oladapo while clear needs at quarterback, tight end and other spots sat open.
They took Cornelius Johnson at par in pick 158, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jha'Quan Jackson in pick No. 184 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Kimani Vidal in the 198th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A need, and now a little less of one.
