The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Dolphins reached some 120 spots for Tahj Washington, and value like that does not grow back.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Their trades came out a wash either way.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 27 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, though they paid up to get him. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Ja'Tavion Sanders at the 53rd pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
They took Michael Hall Jr. at par in No. 90, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Kitan Oladapo at Round 5, Pick 22 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A conviction pick on Christian Jones at pick No. 186 that the board grades a round light. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Tanor Bortolini at the 199th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Tahj Washington. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
