The Dolphins put a flag in the ground for Tahj Washington, 123 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
The phones were busy but the ledger stayed level.
It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.
Pick-by-Pick
A wild overpay on Chris Braswell in slot 33, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A straight-up fair deal on Jackson Powers-Johnson at the 53rd pick, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Ben Sinnott at pick 65 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
They liked Kitan Oladapo enough to skip the value, taking him in the 155th overall pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Value said wait; Gabe Hall in Round 6, Pick 11 says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A real head-scratcher, Walter Rouse in pick No. 199 is miles ahead of his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A big swing on Tahj Washington at No. 239, well ahead of any board in the building. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
