Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Dolphins spent the 186th pick on Tahj Washington, a name the board had a full 183 spots lower. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
Jordan Morgan in the Round 1 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
By-the-book stuff, Chris Braswell at slot 53 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A wild overpay on Ben Sinnott in pick No. 71, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A conviction pick on Kitan Oladapo at pick 155 that the board grades a round light. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They reached into another round for Tahj Washington, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A real head-scratcher, Tanor Bortolini in No. 199 is miles ahead of his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
DeMonte Capehart at No. 239 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
