There is conviction, and then there is this. The Dolphins took Tahj Washington a full 140 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Call it a C+ and check back in two years.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Oladapo at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.
Pick-by-Pick
Troy Fautanu at slot 35 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. The roster fit checks out.
They talked themselves into Sedrick Van Pran at Round 2, Pick 21, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Ben Sinnott at No. 90 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Grayson Murphy in the 105th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Gabe Hall. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A quiet steal in the 186th pick: Kitan Oladapo for less than the market said. A minor itch, scratched.
Michael Barrett in the Round 6 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Tahj Washington at No. 239 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
