The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Dolphins reached some 28 spots for Javon Solomon, and value like that does not grow back.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. They will answer for taking OLB-EDGE early while quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots went begging. Washington at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 27th pick they get a bendy edge with upside, though they paid up to get him. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Patrick Paul in pick No. 55 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A want over a need in pick 90: Javon Solomon adds an OLB-EDGE while quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots keeps waiting.
Good price on Kitan Oladapo in No. 158, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A straight-up fair deal on Tanor Bortolini at slot 184, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
They let Tahj Washington come to them and pounced at the Round 6 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They reached a country mile for Richard Jibunor at the 241st pick, and the board is aghast. Where it fits the depth chart is the real question.
