There is conviction, and then there is this. The Dolphins took Kingsley Eguakun a full 57 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
However the rest shakes out, McGlothern at that price is a win they earned. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Solomon pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 27 they get a disruptor off the edge, reach and all. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Patrick Paul in pick No. 55 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A want over a need in the Round 3 slot: Javon Solomon adds an OLB-EDGE while quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots keeps waiting.
Tykee Smith at the 158th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They robbed the room for Dwight McGlothern here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Tahj Washington in Round 6, Pick 23 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Kingsley Eguakun. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
