The Dolphins torched the value chart for Jonah Elliss, taking him 35 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 31 they get a long-term starter on the line. A clean fit for the roster.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jonah Elliss this early at the Round 2 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A premium they did not need to pay, Mekhi Wingo a notch or two before his time. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kitan Oladapo well ahead of where he belonged. It adds depth where they could use a little.
By-the-book stuff, Dwight McGlothern at the 158th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Tahj Washington at Round 6, Pick 9 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Drake Nugent in the 198th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Josh Proctor in pick 241 is fair value, right on his grade. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
