You can hear the double-takes from here. The Dolphins took Jonah Elliss at the 55th pick, roughly 35 spots before his name belonged. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. A real need, handled.
Jonah Elliss at the 55th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Mekhi Wingo in No. 90, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A tidy little value on Kitan Oladapo in pick No. 158, a step better than break-even. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Tahj Washington in the 184th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reach on Drake Nugent in Round 6, Pick 23; the board had better options right there. It fills a real need, too.
A reach for Kimani Vidal in the 241st overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
