The Dolphins treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending Round 7, Pick 21 on Matt Lee a full 34 spots early.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Johnson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
They went 3 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 21st overall pick they get a disruptor off the edge, even if it was a touch early. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Patrick Paul in the Round 2 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Kitan Oladapo at the 158th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Jaylen Harrell at slot 184 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They let Cornelius Johnson come to them and pounced at Round 6, Pick 23. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Matt Lee at No. 241 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
