You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Dolphins did exactly that with Josh Proctor in the 198th pick. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
The Dolphins indulged a want in Solomon while a need in quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots stayed open. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 31st pick they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. The biggest hole, addressed.
The board had cheaper options than Patrick Paul at No. 55, and it noticed. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Javon Solomon at OLB-EDGE with quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots open.
They paid a round early for Mohamed Kamara in pick No. 124, more than the board wanted. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Nothing to complain about; Kitan Oladapo went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tahj Washington. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They reached a country mile for Josh Proctor at Round 6, Pick 23, and the board is aghast. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Matt Lee this early at the Round 7 slot. It fills a real need, too.
