The Dolphins put a flag in the ground for Matt Lee, 34 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. With quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on OLB-EDGE is the choice that costs them. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get a disruptor off the edge, even if it was a touch early. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They paid up for Patrick Paul at the Round 2 slot when waiting would have done the job. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A curious use of the 90th pick. Quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots needed the pick; an OLB-EDGE in Javon Solomon did not.
A straight-up fair deal on Tykee Smith at the 158th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Tahj Washington in pick 184 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Evan Williams at slot 198 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Matt Lee. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
