The tape said wait; the Dolphins did not. Tykee Smith went at pick No. 104, a good 56 picks before the board was ready.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. With quarterback, edge rusher and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on OLB-EDGE is the choice that costs them.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Jordan Morgan went about where he belonged in the 35th pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid sticker price for Braden Fiske in pick No. 55, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A want over a need in Round 3, Pick 27: Javon Solomon adds an OLB-EDGE while quarterback, edge rusher and other spots keeps waiting.
Tykee Smith at No. 104 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Kitan Oladapo in pick 158 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Cornelius Johnson at slot 184 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A premium they did not need to pay, Drake Nugent a notch or two before his time. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Kimani Vidal at the 241st pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
