The Dolphins looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Javon Solomon at the Round 3 slot regardless, 26 picks early. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Spending an early pick on OLB-EDGE with quarterback, edge rusher and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
No edge and no loss on Jordan Morgan in No. 35; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They took Braden Fiske at par in the 55th pick, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A surprising call. With quarterback, edge rusher and other spots still to address, they spent the 90th overall pick on Javon Solomon, an OLB-EDGE they were not short of.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Ben Sinnott this early at slot 104. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Kitan Oladapo in pick No. 158 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Tykee Smith in the Round 5 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
By-the-book stuff, Tahj Washington at pick 184 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A reach on Drake Nugent in the 198th pick; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
The board had cheaper options than Kimani Vidal at the Round 7 slot, and it noticed. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
