The Dolphins treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending pick 124 on Tykee Smith a full 36 spots early.
The Solomon pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback, tight end and other spots still on the board. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 31 they get a blindside protector. A real need, handled.
Braden Fiske in pick No. 55 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback, tight end and other spots to take Javon Solomon, an OLB-EDGE that was not the priority.
They reached a country mile for Tykee Smith at slot 124, and the board is aghast. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A clean, defensible pick in the 158th overall pick with a little surplus value in Kitan Oladapo. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Tahj Washington in the 176th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Drake Nugent well ahead of where he belonged. The roster fit checks out.
A reach on Jaylen Harrell in pick No. 198; the board had better options right there. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Kimani Vidal at No. 241 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A need, and now a little less of one.
