The Dolphins looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Tykee Smith at pick 124 regardless, 36 picks early.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. It is not that Oladapo is a bad player; it is that the Dolphins had louder needs to answer first.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes. Quantity was the play, for better or worse.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a blindside protector at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Austin Booker this early at No. 55. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Mekhi Wingo in pick 90 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They talked themselves into Tykee Smith at Round 4, Pick 24, and the board did not agree. A minor itch, scratched.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick No. 133 on Kitan Oladapo with quarterback, tight end and other spots unsolved.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Tanor Bortolini. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Cornelius Johnson at the 184th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid up for Jaylen Harrell at Round 6, Pick 23 when waiting would have done the job. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A conviction pick on Kimani Vidal at the 241st pick that the board grades a round light. The roster fit checks out.
