Every other box got a look, but quarterback did not. The Dolphins will head to camp with the same hole they walked in with. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
The Wingo pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 21st pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Austin Booker. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid up for Mekhi Wingo at slot 90 when waiting would have done the job. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Tykee Smith at No. 158 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
No edge and no loss on Cornelius Johnson in pick 184; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Drake Nugent at the Round 6 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A straight-up fair deal on Kalen DeLoach at the 241st overall pick, value and slot in agreement. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
