The Dolphins torched the value chart for Dominique Hampton, taking him 51 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered. They bet on numbers rather than a single high pick.
Their trades came out a wash either way.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
Jordan Morgan in the 33rd overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
By-the-book stuff, Adisa Isaac at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A reach for Mekhi Wingo in No. 90; a little patience would have been rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Elijah Jones at the 101st pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They paid up for Kitan Oladapo at Round 5, Pick 6 when waiting would have done the job. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They reached a country mile for Jha'Quan Jackson at pick 158, and the board is aghast. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Value said wait; Dominique Hampton in the 184th overall pick says they were not listening. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Drake Nugent in Round 6, Pick 23 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The roster fit checks out.
The board had cheaper options than Kimani Vidal at No. 241, and it noticed. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
