A sensible, unshowy class lands the Dolphins a B-.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the Dolphins would have aced it. Jared Wiley at the 245th pick is 45 spots clear of where he belonged. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. That Barrett pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.24 · Pick 24 · Chris Braswell · LB-EDGE · rank 36
In No. 24 they get a bendy edge with upside, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · Jonah Elliss · DE-EDGE · rank 54
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jonah Elliss. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.25 · Pick 161 · Justin Eboigbe · DL-EDGE · rank 178
They paid up for Justin Eboigbe at slot 161 when waiting would have done the job. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Michael Barrett · LB · rank 191
Michael Barrett at Round 6, Pick 27 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Jared Wiley · TE · rank 290
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jared Wiley in the Round 7 slot, miles early. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
