Miami Dolphins

A solid, sensible weekend for the Dolphins: B-.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the Dolphins would have aced it. Aaron Lewis at the 186th overall pick is 102 spots clear of where he belonged. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

The Chambers steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The back end got a real overhaul.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.22 · Pick 22 · Terrion Arnold · CB · rank 20
In the Round 1 slot they get a ballhawk on the outside. More want than need.
R2.22 · Pick 54 · Ja'Tavion Sanders · TE · rank 55
Ja'Tavion Sanders in slot 54 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.23 · Pick 159 · Josh Proctor · S · rank 183
This one needs a full-page explanation: Josh Proctor in pick 159, miles early. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R6.11 · Pick 186 · Aaron Lewis · DL-EDGE · rank 288
Aaron Lewis at the 186th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.25 · Pick 200 · Gabe Hall · DL · rank 200
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Gabe Hall. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R7.23 · Pick 243 · Steele Chambers · LB · rank 222
They barely believed it either: Steele Chambers still on the board at pick No. 243. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
