The Dolphins clearly saw something nobody else did in DeMonte Capehart, taking him 33 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They went 3 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 21st overall pick they get a problem off the edge, though they paid up to get him. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A premium they did not need to pay, Adisa Isaac a notch or two before his time. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Chau Smith-Wade at Round 5, Pick 22, value and slot in agreement. A minor itch, scratched.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Josh Proctor. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They took Jared Wiley at par in No. 199, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
DeMonte Capehart at the Round 7 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
