The Dolphins did not so much draft Josh Proctor as overpay for him, 29 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 21st overall pick they get a bendy edge with upside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Ja'Tavion Sanders at pick No. 53 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Josh Proctor in No. 158 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Gabe Hall this early at the Round 6 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jaylen Harrell at pick 199 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Walter Rouse at the 242nd pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
