Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Tahj Washington at pick 242 is 120 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C+.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 21 they get a double-digit-sack hope, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A wild overpay on Braden Fiske in the 53rd pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid a round early for Kitan Oladapo in the 158th overall pick, more than the board wanted. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They talked themselves into Jared Wiley at the Round 6 slot, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A straight-up fair deal on Christian Jones at No. 199, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Tahj Washington at slot 242 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
