Whoever sat across the table from the Commanders should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The McClellan value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
T.J. Hockenson gives the group a proven body among the projects.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
By-the-book stuff, Laiatu Latu at pick No. 11 squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
In the 23rd overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A reasonable price with a little left over, J.J. McCarthy in Round 2, Pick 4. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Tyler Nubin in the 40th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A minor itch, scratched.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Payton Wilson at the Round 3 slot is the proof. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Patrick Paul is a better player than No. 78 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Max Melton in pick No. 100 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Isaiah Adams in slot 139 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Nehemiah Pritchett at pick 152 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Jase McClellan in the Round 7 slot, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
