Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Cowboys, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. Put together, it is a D+.
The whole projection now runs through Michael Penix Jr.; hit there and everything else looks smarter. They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it.
Reaching for Allen left real value on the table behind him.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 8 they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
In slot 24 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
They took Edgerrin Cooper at par in Round 2, Pick 17, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zach Frazier. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
T'Vondre Sweat at the 68th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The roster fit checks out.
Patrick Paul at pick No. 87 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Khyree Jackson in pick 97 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Braelon Allen in the 103rd overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jalen Coker at Round 6, Pick 41 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Daijun Edwards at No. 244 squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
