If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Commanders, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. One of the weekend's best, top to bottom, and a A- to show for it.
The cost of the Van Pran reach is exactly the players who went right after him. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Tremaine Edmunds gives the group a proven body among the projects. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.

Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Sedrick Van Pran at No. 39 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They jumped the gun on Amarius Mims, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A reach for Brenden Rice in Round 3, Pick 7; a little patience would have been rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They reached a country mile for Jaheim Bell at the 100th overall pick, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A conviction pick on James Williams at the 107th pick that the board grades a round light. A minor itch, scratched.
Darius Robinson at pick No. 144 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Miles Frazier. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Carson Steele in the 228th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
