Whoever sat across the table from the Packers should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. It is not that Colson is a bad player; it is that the Packers had louder needs to answer first. Jackson has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
However the rest shakes out, Colson at that price is a win they earned.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
Tyler Guyton in the 41st pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
They liked Chris Braswell enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 2, Pick 12. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Graham Barton at pick No. 57 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Edgerrin Cooper at pick 64 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. A minor itch, scratched.
A curious use of the Round 3 slot. Tight end and interior defensive lineman needed the pick; a linebacker in Junior Colson did not.
Khyree Jackson at the 88th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went OLB-EDGE with Javon Solomon while clear needs at tight end and interior defensive lineman sat open.
A straight-up fair deal on Jarrian Jones at slot 125, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A quiet steal in the Round 4 slot: Dillon Johnson for less than the market said. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Daijun Edwards in pick 135 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Joe Milton III at No. 164 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A tidy little value on Isaiah Williams in Round 6, Pick 28, a step better than break-even. It fills a real need, too.
The board had cheaper options than Trevor Keegan at the 217th pick, and it noticed. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They paid sticker price for Daequan Hardy in slot 219, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reach on Carson Steele in pick No. 246; the board had better options right there. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Donell Harris Jr. at the 253rd overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
