The war room fell hard for Jordan Jefferson, and it showed at pick No. 217: 25 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. With edge rusher, quarterback and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on safety is the choice that costs them.
The Egbuka value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Kool-Aid McKinstry in Round 1, Pick 11 is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They let Emeka Egbuka come to them and pounced at the 39th pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
They paid sticker price for Jordan Morgan in No. 43, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
TreVeyon Henderson in the Round 3 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
By-the-book stuff, Rod Moore at pick 82 squarely in line with his ranking. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They jumped the gun on Seth McLaughlin, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The roster fit checks out.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Cole Bishop while clear needs at edge rusher, quarterback and other spots sat open.
They took Michael Barrett at par in slot 189, which is nothing to complain about. A minor itch, scratched.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jordan Jefferson in No. 217, miles early. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A reach for Tyreek Chappell in pick No. 219; a little patience would have been rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jase McClellan in Round 7, Pick 12 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
