If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Packers, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
Landing Neyor that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The Steele reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 31st overall pick they get a potential shutdown corner, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
They paid a round early for Kingsley Suamataia in pick No. 41, more than the board wanted. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They robbed the room for T.J. Tampa here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A big swing on Leonard Taylor III at Round 3, Pick 25, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They jumped the gun on Audric Estime, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Marist Liufau at the Round 3 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A minor itch, scratched.
A wild overpay on Darius Robinson in Round 3, Pick 31, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jaden Hicks in No. 98 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A straight-up fair deal on Will Shipley at slot 126, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
By-the-book stuff, LaDarius Henderson at the Round 5 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Tanor Bortolini at pick 203 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They took Jared Wiley at par in pick No. 204, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
David Ugwoegbu at the 216th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It does not line up with the team's obvious holes.
No edge and no loss on Phil Jurkovec in the 243rd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They talked themselves into Carson Steele at Round 7, Pick 24, and the board did not agree. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Somehow Isaiah Neyor was still sitting there in pick No. 251, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A need, and now a little less of one.
