The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
Getting Phillips where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The Stover pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 3 they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
The board had Jordan Morgan higher than pick 34, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It fills a real need, too.
No drama and no debate, Trey Benson went about where he belonged in slot 68. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Cade Stover at TE-EDGE with edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots open.
They robbed the room for Mason McCormick here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Kitan Oladapo in the 182nd overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Andru Phillips at the Round 7 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
