The Commanders spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
The Johnson pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The Tupuola-Fetui reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 4 they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
In slot 27 they get a disruptor off the edge at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Kool-Aid McKinstry is a better player than the 35th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Tyler Guyton at Round 2, Pick 4 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jordan Morgan at pick No. 40 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Keon Coleman at pick 67 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Steal is underselling it; Kris Abrams-Draine at the 99th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jaden Hicks in the Round 4 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Cedric Gray at No. 138 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A reach for Zion Tupuola-Fetui in pick 178; a little patience would have been rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
A wide receiver of that caliber at slot 222 is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
