After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Commanders committed. Jayden Daniels is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
The Cowing pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The Eichenberg pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with running back and interior defensive lineman still on the board. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 4 they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
They paid sticker price for Edgerrin Cooper in the 36th pick, and that is fine. A minor itch, scratched.
Jordan Morgan at the 37th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Fair-plus on Denzel Burke, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 100 with a little surplus value in Adisa Isaac. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A want over a need in slot 104: Tommy Eichenberg adds a linebacker while running back and interior defensive lineman keeps waiting.
Cade Stover at the Round 5 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board had cheaper options than Layden Robinson at pick 182, and it noticed. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Steal is underselling it; Jacob Cowing at the 225th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
