The Cowboys treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending Round 7, Pick 25 on Evan Anderson a full 28 spots early. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Tupuola-Fetui.
A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 24 they get a potential shutdown corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
Nothing to complain about; Patrick Paul went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A premium they did not need to pay, Audric Estime a notch or two before his time. A need, and now a little less of one.
They took Cedric Gray at par in pick 129, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A tidy bit of business in Round 5, Pick 38, where Zion Tupuola-Fetui graded well above the range. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Trevor Keegan at the Round 6 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Evan Anderson this early at pick No. 245. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
