The Packers bet big and early on Jaylon Hutchings, 109 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
The Jones value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The trade work was a quiet net positive.
On the needs board they went 8 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 28th overall pick they get protection for the quarterback. A real need, handled.
A reach for Payton Wilson in the Round 2 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
By-the-book stuff, Braden Fiske at No. 58 squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 88 with a little surplus value in Blake Corum. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in the 90th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They paid up for Christian Mahogany at pick No. 91 when waiting would have done the job. A need, and now a little less of one.
Nice patience on Elijah Jones, who had no business lasting to pick 126. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A wild overpay on Kitan Oladapo in No. 134, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Christian Jones slipping to the 144th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The roster fit checks out.
Dallin Holker slid further than he should have, and the Round 5 slot is lovely value for the tight end. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Joe Milton III at the 162nd pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They jumped the gun on Grayson Murphy, taking him earlier than his grade liked. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Curtis Jacobs in pick No. 202 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
A premium they did not need to pay, Tylan Grable a notch or two before his time. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They reached into another round for Jaylon Hutchings, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Bub Means at the 255th overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
