Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Packers spent slot 202 on Sam Hartman, a name most had 56 spots down the list. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
The Wilson pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with wide receiver, tight end and other spots still on the board. The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 25 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
A reach on Edgerrin Cooper in the 41st pick; the board had better options right there. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They bypassed pressing needs at wide receiver, tight end and other spots to take Payton Wilson, a linebacker that was not the priority.
They took Dadrion Taylor-Demerson at par in the 88th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Jaden Hicks adds a safety and leaves wide receiver, tight end and other spots untouched.
Jarrian Jones in Round 4, Pick 26 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They jumped the gun on Khristian Boyd, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They reached a country mile for Sam Hartman at slot 202, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kimani Vidal well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A tidy bit of business in pick 245, where Dominique Hampton graded well above the range. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
A real head-scratcher, Frank Crum in the 255th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
