When a board-topper like Jarrian Jones slides to the 169th pick, you do not overthink it, and the Packers did not.

They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. It is not that Williams is a bad player; it is that the Packers had louder needs to answer first. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Olumuyiwa Fashanu · OT · rank 8
In No. 25 they get a building block for the line at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · T'Vondre Sweat · DT · rank 45
No drama and no debate, T'Vondre Sweat went about where he belonged in slot 41. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 57
Payton Wilson at the 58th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Trey Benson · RB · rank 87
Trey Benson in pick 88 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Calen Bullock · S · rank 83
Calen Bullock slipping to Round 3, Pick 28 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · James Williams · S · rank 125
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with James Williams while clear needs at edge rusher and wide receiver sat open.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Jarrian Jones · CB · rank 136
Jarrian Jones in the 169th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 200
A straight-up fair deal on Joe Milton III at pick No. 202, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Nathaniel Watson · LB · rank 212
A reasonable price with a little left over, Nathaniel Watson in pick 219. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Tylan Grable · OT · rank 231
Tylan Grable slid further than he should have, and the 245th pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Trey Knox · TE · rank 223
The board fumbled Trey Knox all the way to pick No. 255, and they scooped it up. The roster fit checks out.
