Good, not great, for the Packers: B-.

You can hear the double-takes from here. The Packers took Kyle Hergel at slot 255, roughly 92 spots before his name belonged. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

The Williams pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, tight end and other spots still on the board. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 32
In No. 25 they get protection for the quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Jonathon Brooks · RB · rank 48
Jonathon Brooks in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Javon Bullard · S · rank 42
Javon Bullard is a better player than the 58th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 114
They reached into another round for Cedric Gray, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Kris Abrams-Draine · CB · rank 81
Kris Abrams-Draine in slot 91 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · James Williams · S · rank 125
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. James Williams in Round 4, Pick 26 leaves edge rusher, tight end and other spots for later.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 200
They talked themselves into Joe Milton III at No. 169, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Cornelius Johnson · WR · rank 188
They read the board right and Cornelius Johnson was the payoff at the Round 6 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Caedan Wallace · OT · rank 213
Good price on Caedan Wallace in pick No. 219, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Darius Muasau · LB · rank 260
They liked Darius Muasau enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 7, Pick 25. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Kyle Hergel · OG · rank 347
A real head-scratcher, Kyle Hergel in pick 255 is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
