Green Bay Packers

The Packers fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B+.

The Packers did not so much draft Isaac Rex as overpay for him, 67 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.

The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They banked enough surplus on Fautanu to cover a lot of smaller sins. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.26 · Pick 58 · Troy Fautanu · OT · rank 22
Troy Fautanu at the 58th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.2 · Pick 66 · Jaylen Wright · RB · rank 71
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jaylen Wright. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.27 · Pick 90 · Max Melton · CB · rank 76
Max Melton in Round 3, Pick 27 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Mike Sainristil · CB · rank 75
Value with a capital V on Mike Sainristil in the 91st overall pick, a genuine coup. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.29 · Pick 92 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 113
A wild overpay on Cedric Gray in pick No. 92, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Mohamed Kamara · DL-EDGE · rank 133
They paid up for Mohamed Kamara at pick 125 when waiting would have done the job. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 125
Johnny Wilson at the Round 4 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R4.32 · Pick 132 · Christian Jones · OT · rank 132
They took Christian Jones at par in pick No. 132, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R5.2 · Pick 138 · Kitan Oladapo · S · rank 154
A conviction pick on Kitan Oladapo at pick 138 that the board grades a round light. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 200
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Joe Milton III. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.30 · Pick 205 · Jase McClellan · RB · rank 196
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jase McClellan at slot 205 is the proof. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Caedan Wallace · OT · rank 213
Caedan Wallace at the 219th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.6 · Pick 226 · Dominique Hampton · S · rank 234
They liked Dominique Hampton enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 226. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Edefuan Ulofoshio · LB · rank 236
A tidy bit of business in Round 7, Pick 25, where Edefuan Ulofoshio graded well above the range. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
R7.29 · Pick 249 · Evan Anderson · DL · rank 282
Evan Anderson at No. 249 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Isaac Rex · TE · rank 322
A real head-scratcher, Isaac Rex in the 255th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
