The Packers spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Taliese Fuaga, the No. 16 name on the board, in pick No. 58. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
They are betting Jacobs proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get a cornerstone up front, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Taking Kool-Aid McKinstry in the 41st pick is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Taliese Fuaga in the Round 2 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Max Melton at Round 3, Pick 25. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Nothing to complain about; Jaden Hicks went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
No drama and no debate, Isaac Guerendo went about where he belonged in slot 126. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Curtis Jacobs. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A straight-up fair deal on Joe Milton III at the 202nd overall pick, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A reach on Edefuan Ulofoshio in the 219th overall pick; the board had better options right there. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Steal is underselling it; Caedan Wallace at slot 245 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Josh Proctor in No. 255. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
