Green Bay Packers

The Packers fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B.

The Packers ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. No fireworks, but a solid B.

Milton III has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The Melton pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. They went 8 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.9 · Pick 41 · Javon Bullard · S · rank 42
No drama and no debate, Javon Bullard went about where he belonged in the 41st overall pick. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R2.13 · Pick 45 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 49
Edgerrin Cooper at slot 45 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Braden Fiske · DL · rank 58
By-the-book stuff, Braden Fiske at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R2.27 · Pick 59 · Christian Haynes · OG · rank 65
No edge and no loss on Christian Haynes in Round 2, Pick 27; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Max Melton · CB · rank 76
Value with a capital V on Max Melton in the 88th pick, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Trey Benson · RB · rank 87
Trey Benson at pick No. 91 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.23 · Pick 123 · James Williams · S · rank 124
They paid sticker price for James Williams in No. 123, and that is fine. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Christian Jones · OT · rank 132
Christian Jones in pick 126 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.14 · Pick 150 · Justin Eboigbe · DL-EDGE · rank 148
A straight-up fair deal on Justin Eboigbe at No. 150, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Tip Reiman · TE · rank 182
Tip Reiman in the Round 5 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The roster fit checks out.
R5.34 · Pick 170 · Tanor Bortolini · C · rank 187
The board had cheaper options than Tanor Bortolini at pick No. 170, and it noticed. It fills a real need, too.
R5.39 · Pick 175 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 200
They left a pile of value on the table to take Joe Milton III this early at Round 5, Pick 39. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.13 · Pick 188 · Cornelius Johnson · WR · rank 188
They took Cornelius Johnson at par in the 188th pick, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R6.15 · Pick 190 · Fabien Lovett · DL · rank 184
Fabien Lovett in the 190th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Curtis Jacobs · LB · rank 198
Fair-plus on Curtis Jacobs, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Caedan Wallace · OT · rank 213
A clean, defensible pick in pick 219 with a little surplus value in Caedan Wallace. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · C.J. Hanson · OG · rank 263
A wild overpay on C.J. Hanson in pick No. 245, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Tyler Owens · S · rank 255
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyler Owens. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
