Boards are made to be trusted, and the Packers shredded theirs for Taulia Tagovailoa. He came off 36 spots early, and the room will hear about it.
The Allen steal is the beam this whole class leans on. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
Spending an early pick on safety with edge rusher and interior defensive lineman open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
Javon Bullard at pick No. 37 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A conviction pick on Edgerrin Cooper at pick 41 that the board grades a round light. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A straight-up fair deal on Zach Frazier at Round 2, Pick 26, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Mike Sainristil at the 65th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A surprising call. With edge rusher and interior defensive lineman still to address, they spent the Round 3 slot on Dadrion Taylor-Demerson, a safety they were not short of.
Dominick Puni at the 95th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Zak Zinter in the 105th pick is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose linebacker. Cedric Gray in No. 110 leaves edge rusher and interior defensive lineman for later.
They barely believed it either: Braelon Allen still on the board at pick No. 126. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Isaac Guerendo in slot 132. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They took Kamal Hadden at par in pick 169, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 6 slot, where Cornelius Johnson graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
Caedan Wallace in Round 6, Pick 44 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Somehow Tanner McLachlan was still sitting there in the 225th overall pick, and they pounced on premier tight end value. A need, and now a little less of one.
C.J. Hanson at the 240th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Tyrice Knight at pick 245 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Value said wait; Taulia Tagovailoa in the 252nd pick says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Daijahn Anthony in No. 255 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
