The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Packers watched Johnny Wilson slide 44 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
They are betting Taylor proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get a press-man option on the boundary. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Jackson Powers-Johnson at the 41st pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A need, and now a little less of one.
A slide stopped in pick No. 70, with Payton Wilson worth more than the price. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Max Melton at slot 88. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No edge and no loss on Christian Mahogany in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They took Will Shipley at par in No. 107, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
James Williams in pick 126 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor itch, scratched.
Circle this one: Johnny Wilson at Round 5, Pick 33 is a fall that decides a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid a round early for Joe Milton III in No. 183, more than the board wanted. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.

A swing that ignored the value entirely, Trey Taylor well ahead of where he belonged. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
They paid up for C.J. Hanson at the Round 7 slot when waiting would have done the job. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
